Earns another assist
Alvarado assisted once to go with one shot (zero on goal), five crosses (zero accurate) and one corner in Wednesday's 3-0 win against Czech Republic.
Analysis: Alvarado would earn an assist Wednesday as Mexico finished a perfect group stage, with the attacker finding Alvaro Fidalgo in stoppage time. This comes as his second assist, as he also earned one in their opener, now with two assists on six chances created. He has only left the field in regulation time for 10 minutes, as he appears keen to be a starter in the knockouts as well.
Provides assist in WC opener
Alvarado assisted once to go with four crosses (two accurate) and two corners in Thursday's 2-0 victory against South Africa.
Analysis: Alvarado played a major role on the right wing, delivering the cross that led to Raul Jimenez's header which doubled the lead after 67 minutes of the 2026 World Cup opening game. The Guadalajara player benefited from Mexico's dominance to accrue offensive numbers, and he won nine of his 14 ground duels during the match. He took a few set pieces given that all of Alexis Vega, Gilberto Mora and Luis Chavez were initially on the bench. While that's not guaranteed to be the case in every game, corner and free-kick duties represent an interesting boost to Alvarado's playmaking upside.
Leading option on right wing
Alvarado should be involved as a wide attacker for Mexico in the World Cup after being one of the first players to join the training camp.
Analysis: Alvarado remains a regular part of Mexico's setup even after one of his least impressive club seasons from a production standpoint. The winger is expected to provide creativity on the right flank, although he can also operate centrally when needed. Since the start of 2025, he has recorded 24 shots (12 on target) along with 15 chances created across 16 international appearances, but he has yet to register either a goal or an assist during that span. He'll look to play a big offensive role at the World Cup, but he may eventually split time on the field with Orbelin Pineda.
In WC squad, out of league playoffs
Alvarado will serve international duty ahead of the World Cup and won't be involved in his club's last few games of the season, the national team reported Tuesday.
Analysis: Alvarado was a regular presence for his club throughout the first four months of the year, even though it was one of his least impressive campaigns in terms of offensive output, as he tallied one goal and two assists across 17 league appearances. Still, he's one of top options to start on the right wing for Mexico in the upcoming World Cup. Both Santiago Sandoval and Hugo Camberos are candidates to fill in for him in the final league fixtures.
